Primary – Key Stages 1 & 2

Our Primary teachers are qualified and experienced to make your child feel at ease and settled in this big stepping stone in their school life, so that they can progress and develop their skills, especially in Literacy and Numeracy.

Green Park School, Muaither, follows the National Curriculum of England in teaching English, Mathematics, Science and Social studies. Music, Art, ICT, PSHE and PE are incorporated into the curriculum to provide all children with a broader, more balanced education. In addition, we offer daily Arabic lessons from Year 1 to Year 6, and Muslim children will also have Islamic Studies lessons. Children are also introduced to the Modern Foreign Language of French, with one lesson a week in Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2), and two lessons a week in Key Stage 2 (Year 3 – Year 6).

Homework is given to all children in Primary, which is designed to complement and enhance the learning in the classroom, and children are expected to complete this diligently.

Throughout the Primary classes, there is a system of internal assessment, so that each child’s progress and development can be documented. These may include regular spelling tests, end of unit tests, etc. In accordance with the National Curriculum Guidelines for Student Assessment, there will be more formal assessment at the end of the school year (see Assessment Policy).

There are Parent-Teacher-Meetings towards the end of each term, where parents have an opportunity to discuss their child’s academic progress with the teacher. However, our teachers are happy to speak to parents at other appointed times, too.

The Primary department offers learning support, but does not have a special needs department at this time.

To complement the curriculum, our teachers offer a variety of extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs throughout the school year.
